The Andaman Sea Overview

The Andaman Sea is a marginal sea located in the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean. It is bordered by Myanmar and Thailand to the east, stretching along the Gulf of Martaban and the Malay Peninsula to the west. The sea is separated from the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. To the south, it extends to Breueh Island, just north of Sumatra, Indonesia, and further southeast lies the Strait of Malacca. Historically, the Andaman Sea has been used for fishing and transporting goods between coastal countries. Its coral reefs and islands are renowned tourist attractions and offer excellent diving opportunities.​

How to get there

Diving in the Andaman Sea usually begins from Phuket, with liveaboard cruises departing from Chalong Pier in Phuket or Thap Lamu Pier in Khao Lak.​
